Discovering Cancer Cells in Peripheral Blood Focusing on Breast Cancer Taylor Mitchell Thomas University Abstract The discovery and use of tumor cells in pertinent to the development, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. This paper will show specific research not only about tumor cells but also about circulating tumor cells (CTC). It is important to understand how these cells are discovered and the recent development in finding them in peripheral blood in a minimal amount of time. The Chemistry, Pathology and Laboratory departments conduct a study on 90 specimens from 24 patients, all who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Tumor markers and cancers cells are both produced by cancer that is the tale tell sign for the appropriate diagnosis. Tumor markers can help detect, diagnose and treat certain kinds of cancer. Doctors will biopsy, measure and test tumors to discover whether or not it is malignant or benign (â€Å"Tumor Markers). Tumor markers can reveal the stage along with the prognosis of the patient. Tumor markers not the only sign that can be used to discover cancer in a patient. Circulating tumor cells is also a useful tool. It is defined by the CellSearch assay, that CTC is a cell that is â€Å"EpCAM positive, cytokeratin positive, CD45 negative, and nuclear stain positive (Zhao et al., 2013).† The Department of Chemistry, Laboratory and Pathology at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA conducted a study to increase the automated number of the counting method for CTCs in whole blood using their own recently developed ensemble-decision aliquot ranking or eDAR. While these cells were reported about 150 years ago, they have continued to be a useful tool in diagnosis cancer and its treatment (Zhao et al., 2013). All these are important factors which a person is in a position to express when in a safe space. Background of the Topic The importance of the safe space was realized after an extended period when company heads realized that there are increased cases of absenteeism in the office setup, there were increased cases of students missing classes and increase cases of depression cases in the community. The term cultural safety has been around for an extended period; it has been around for a long time. This term was first brought to the academic circles in the 1990s by a nurse who was working in a hospital where her need in the working environment varied between her needs (Poynter, 2008). In our educational institution, what a lecturer expects from the students varies differently from what is expected from what the students hopes. For example, the lecture expects the students to submit some assignment for a particular period. The lectures need varies from the students which in turn causes there to be an increase in the workload for both the lecturer and the student. For the two individuals to move forward both personally and professionally, it is important that both the student and the teacher understand what cultural safety is and what it entails. Cultural safety is referred to as ethnically appropriate programs crucial for improving social and personal empowerment.In a safe environment , it is an opportunity where there is no attack, contest or denial of their personality. Safe space was introduced in both the work environment and institutional environment to increase the issue of performance to increase the office or institution (Williams, 2016). Scope The report will focus on the importance of the safe spaces in colleges and how they contribute to the entire institution. The report is going to increase to discuss the issue of safe spaces which are only open to a specific ethnic group, particular age group and a particular group of individuals. Summary of Literature Safe space can, therefore, be seen as an area where you are surrounded by a community who share your ideas. In a safe space there is no classification of any kind. In most social areas, it is evident that most social centers, we are put in a position where we are forced to defend ourselves for looking different, speaking different and thinking different. The society wants to put us on a pedestal where you are allowed to behave in a way the society expects you to act. For example, if you are in a place where you are surrounded by individuals who share a similar view regarding their stand on politics and strategies. At such a space, you are at liberty to do whatever you please as nobody will judge you. Cultural intelligence can be defined as capabilities related to work efficiency across all the cultures in the workplace or social center.it is impossible not to be unsafe in most social centers as we all come from different ethnic and educational backgrounds. Observations/Description of Video The star of the south park clip Randy had just finished doing his shopping in a convenient store .after his shopping was calculated the cashier told him how much he had to pay for it. As he reached for his wallet, the cashier asked him, have heard about the contribute a dollar fund? Randy answered him no I have not. The clerk asked him, Would you like to give a dollar to save a life? Randy casually answered Not today, thanks, followed by that condescending stare from the clerk. The clerk repeated in a loud tone almost trying to embarrass him you dont want to donate a dollar to save a life! There were some discriminatory stares from the cashier and the customer who heard the entire conversation making it an unsafe space for people who are not willing to, make a donation for a cause they dont believe in. This is a familiar incident which has happened to most of us. The society has made it a requirement for you to make a donation to help funds or gift funds whose purpose is to help the poor or those who are unfortunate ( Nicholson, 2015). In this clip, it is evident; nobody tried to create a safe environment for Randy. He was the only person who was defending himself as the cashier hurled his words to the people. This retail store was unsafe space when it comes to you thought on donations. The signs that showed that it was a dangerous space was because of the look the cashier gave Randy for not donating and the constant reminder of the denotation of just one dollar to charity (Nicholson,2015). Recommendations In brief , our endorsements for safe spaces is that we should encourage people to be more open minded to accept the accepted way of thinking. We should not discriminate people in the line of their cultural background, ethnic background or their way of thinking. The area which is unsafe spaces is changed their way of thinking because it affects the safety of individual because people will not be in a position to think critically. Conclusion Unsafe spaces should be demolished as they are the causes of dispute and fear. Safety spaces are areas which all the citizens should enjoy regardless of their cultural background. J B Priestleys goal was to tell us that we are all part of one body, this in the play is referred to as the social message. At the beginning of the play the family are enjoying Sheila and Geralds engagement, at the time the atmosphere was joyful. The Birlings and Gerald croft are in the upper class. Priestley made the atmosphere like a warm welcoming family. The play is about a family that contribute to the death of a young woman who commits suicide. Priestleys main aim is to tell us we are all part of one body. This means that we should look after each other the way that you would like to be treated. Priestley brings out his point by using dramatic irony. Dramatic irony is when the audience know more than all or most of the characters on stage. Dramatic irony is used well with all the characters, the reason to this is that the audience are watching the play years after it is set (1912) this means that the audience already know what had actually happened. Firstly there is mr Birling he makes several references to unemployment i.e., theres a lot of wild talk about possible labour trouble in the future, MR Birling says that they have passed the worst of all the trouble but the audience knows there was labour unrest and got worse in the 1920s. Mr Birling also states The Titanic sails next week, forty six thousand eight hundred tons, New York in five days every luxury and unsinkable, we know that the titanic sank in 1912 which makes the audience judge Mr Birling very early in the play. We also learn that the family are not close we know this because they keep secrets from each other i.e. Eric was drinking and Sheila never told her mother or father, when the topic of Eric is actually raised and Mrs Birling found out her son drinks she never wanted to hear a word about it. Eric doesnt tell his family about Eva smiths baby or about the money he stole until the inspector forced him to. Mr Birling is very concerned that there is no scandal going on otherwise his chances of having a knighthood would massively decrease. Mr Birling only cares about himself and his family. He doesnt care about the people around him. This brings me onto my next point, If Sheila hadnt gone to the manager of milwards and got Eva smith sacked then the whole mess wouldnt have started. But then Eric got Eva Smith pregnant, which meant that he had to now support her. Eric Stole money from Mr Birlings office and gave it so she had enough money to see her through. When Eva smith found out that she had been taking stolen money she refused to take any more of it. So she then went to Mrs Birlings committee but Mrs Birling Refused to support her because she had been lying about her identity. Mr Birling is a very selfish man he only thinks about himself and his family. Mr Birling tries to hide the truth but all is revealed by the inspector, as he knows all. When the inspector Questions the Birling household mr Birling tries to assert his authority over the inspector. We know that he will lose. The older generation (Mr and Mrs Birling) fail to notice the power of the inspector e.g. Mrs Birling tries to withhold information because shes not present at other interviews. MxPx essays On November 26th I went to the Stone Pony in New York to see another of my favorite bands, NOFX. NOFX is a punk-ska band. Punk meaning fast paced drumbeats and quick singing and ska meaning a song played with trumpets. The band members are Fat Mike (vocals, bass), El Hefe (guitar, trumpet, vocals), Eric Melvin (guitar, vocals), and Erik Sandin (drums). The one thing I found out there was that El Hefe sings a lot. I thought he only sings in a few songs but when I heard them play, I noticed that he sang about half of the songs. NOFX music has considerable groove for a punk band and is sparked by the two lead guitarists, Eric Melvin and El Hefe. Tight play between the band's four members, and short, fast, punchy songs, with a laid back approach would even have non-punk fans entertained. Their songs talk about racism, politics, social problems, sex, drugs, lesbians, bums, alcohol, animal freedom... and many other strange subjects. In their music you will find punk, of course, but also rock, hardcore, ska, even reggae and jazz. If you ask me they are a just a punk-ska band. Their songs are interesting and different from one another. Each song has it's own characteristics. The lyrics are very interesting, sometimes strange, and sometimes incomprehensible. You basically just have to understand them in your own way. The club was packed, or more accurately, stuffed. After much anticipation the punk gods, NOFX hit the stage and the crowd surged with excitement even before they opened the set with one of my favorite songs, "Reagan Sucks." The next song they played was "Bob". They played songs from the album "Flossing a Dead Horse" - which is one massive trumpet solo presented by El Hefe. The next song they played was "Eat the Meek" with trumpet and lead vocals by El Hefe.
